Blue Mother Tupelo, The Otha Turner Boys Fife & Drum Band, Stacy Mitchart, Juke Skywalker, Chip Greene and very special guest Luther Dickinson gather to celebrate our friends Otha Turner and Bill Ramsey!
Each year, Nashvillian Bill Ramsey hosts a birthday bash honoring Otha Turner and his music. Otha Turner started playing the fife and drums at local picnic parties at a young age and became the leader of the Rising Star Fife and Drum Corps. He used the money he would make to purchase a farm where he and his family lived. Although Otha is no longer with us, his spirit and music live on in his grandchildren, The Otha Turner Boys, as well as Sharde Thomas Mallory & The Rising Stars, who continue the centuries-old fife and drum tradition along with other family members in the Rising Star Fife and Drum Band. All proceeds from the event benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.
Ode to Otha celebrates Otha Turner’s lifetime of music and his legacy. It's a family-friendly event with activities for everyone to enjoy. From great music, tasty food and drinks to an interactive kids’ zone, you can bring the entire family along for the fun! The event was established on the understanding that food and music have the power to make a difference, so the tradition continues. This is an excellent way to support a fantastic cause while you enjoy great music and all you can eat food from Martin's Bar-B-Que and The Ridge.
The event is sponsored by Bill & Lisa Ramsey, The Ridge, Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint, Nashville Bar Association, Womble Bond Dickinson, Brantley, O’Neil & Hagaman, Lightning 100, Yazoo Brewing Company. Admission is $40. Kids 12 and under free. Price of admission includes cold beer, margaritas, food, live music, clowns and pinatas for the kids! Celebrating Otha Turner, music legend, fife and drum band trailblazer. Proceeds go to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. Fun for the entire family!
