Otha Turner Family Goat Bar-B-Q Picnic!!! This picnic is certainly an Otha Turner family tradition and an old time Mississippi tradition - BMT has performed for the last several years at this nonstop down home foot-stompin' picnic filled with great food, great folks and great music! - Past performers include: T-Model Ford, RL Burnside, Sam Carr, "Big Jack" Johnson, Kenny Brown, Robert Belfour, Terry "Harmonica" Bean, Cedric & Duwayne Burnside, Kenny Kimbrough, "Slick" Ballinger, Steve "Lightnin'" Malcolm, Blind Mississippi Morris, Big Daddy, Luther Dickenson from the North Mississippi Allstars, Blue Mother Tupelo and of course, Sharde Thomas & The Rising Star Fife & Drum Band). The gathering of friends and the music is always fantastic and the catfish & goat bar-b-q are delicious! Ice-cold beer to top things off - it don't get no better than this!!!
This year, the Turner family will carry on in the traditional picnic style with Otha Turner's original Rising Star Fife and Drum and his granddaughter, Sharde Thomas, playing the fife and his grandsons playing the drums as well as countless other Hill Country and Delta Blues musicians. Blue Mother Tupelo will be jammin' there with others. At this picnic, there's never a schedule for performers and one NEVER knows who'll be performing for this event. But the music is nonstop and this is always guaranteed to be an old-fashioned Mississippi boogie. Y'all come!
Directions: On I-55, get off on the Senatobia exit and turn left (away from town) down Highway 4. Go approximately three Miles down that road to Gravel Springs Road (the second road to the right on 4 from Senatobia). Turn right on Gravel Springs Road. Go to the second 4-way stop and turn left (that road is OB McClinton Road) Follow that road about a half mile and the Turner's Picnic is on the right there will be lots of cars & people gathered there. Park along the side of the road.
*BOOK AN AREA HOTEL WELL IN-ADVANCE, ALMOST ALL FILL UP WAY AHEAD OF TIME (the picnic location is about an hour's drive southeast of Memphis).
"Renowned for his picnic parties Mr. Turner - who played a homemade bamboo cane fife or wooden flute and spent much of his life as a sharecropper and subsistence farmer - was a living link to rural blues and fife-and-drum pre-blues that extended well into the 19th Century."

About The Bluebird Cafe:
Since 1982 the remarkable Bluebird Cafe has been a part of making legends in the music world. The club is surprisingly small. It only holds 110 people, which makes every seat close to the performer and every show is very intimate. The Bluebird Cafe is where topnotch iconic songwriters and icons in the making alike perform on a nightly basis. It is where Garth Brooks nailed down his record contract, where stars like the Sweethearts of the Rodeo, Kathy Mattea, and T. Graham Brown were discovered, and where an unknown Vince Gill honed his chops.
The Bluebird is a non-smoking club and has an outdoor speaker and a window to watch through for all smokers.
For reservations *between 11:00 am & 5:00 pm ph: 615.383.1461. It is highly recommended that you arrive early.

Blue Mother Tupelo performs September 19, 20 & 21 at the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion.
In the summer of 1927, the Victor Talking Machine Company tapped producer Ralph Peer for an important task: find the next big thing in American music. To Peer, Bristol looked like the perfect place to scout—the city had a passenger rail line, a main street straddling the border of Virginia and Tennessee, and was central enough to North Carolina, Kentucky and West Virginia to get a musical sample of the mountains.
Blue Mother Tupelo is ever-so aware of the rich musical history of this beautiful region in upper east Tennessee. Ricky quite possibly would never have picked up a guitar or sang a song if it weren't for his late uncle Bus, who picked, sang & rambled with the likes of Jimmie Rodgers, The Carter Family and some of the early recording artists out of Bristol. Bus played and sang the country hillbilly blues using a pocket knife to slide the guitar strings and he inspired Ricky's dad, other uncles and cousins to play music - and hence, Ricky was born into this family of music thanks to the roots from Bristol.
In the same way Ralph Peer summoned artists to the streets in 1927, Bristol calls its musical children home to the Rhythm & Roots Reunion. Blue Mother Tupelo is truly honored to be included in the line up, which includes three National Heritage Fellowship recipients; the highest honor given to an artist. Recipients scheduled to appear are Doc Watson, Dr. Ralph Stanley and Wayne Henderson. The line-up of artists is the strongest ever and promises something for everyone, old and young alike. To see the full line-up & to learn more about the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, visit www.bristolrhythm.com.

A Celebration Of Folk Art & Roots Music
This is an outdoor event, bring lawn chairs, blankets, and a camera to capture the beautiful fall foliage and all the sites! The fest Includes an arts village and food court area. Alcohol will be available for sale on the premises.
The festival also features an arts village packed with rural artists, most of whom may have not had the opportunity for the public to view and purchase their work. With a mission to create an experience unlike any other outdoor music event, this is a down-home festival that joins music and community.
The festival site, beautiful Montgomery Bell State Park is located seven miles east of Dickson in Dickson County. How Far to Austin
The Chicago Bluegrass & Blues Festival celebrates Chicago's unprecedented appreciation of roots music and culture and will take place at the legendary Congress Theater. A bevy of homegrown talent will unite with the genre's most accomplished and influential artists for a day of collaboration and cause. 12 hours, 15 bands, for only $30. And all in the name of roots jams and a just cause - aiming to help eradicate congenital heart defects in children, a portion of the event's proceeds will contribute to the research efforts of the Chicago-based Saving Tiny Hearts Foundation. Fans of folk, country, bluegrass, Americana, blues, and jamband music unite in The Windy City to see legendary artists like David Grisman share the stage with the rising talents of today's roots music scene. And this all takes place in one of Chicago's most uniquely beautiful theaters, The Congress Theater www.congresschicago.com.
Built in 1926, the 4,000 capacity theater is located in the burgeoning Logan Square/Bucktown/Wicker Park area, the seat of the artistic and music communities in the Midwest. It sits perfectly situated, in close proximity to the immense variety of ethnic and social communities which it serves, just blocks from the 90/94 expressway, Metra and CTA blue line trains.
